During winter, Chamrousse is one of the major ski-resorts of France. Its location right above Grenoble makes it easily accesible for the large flows of tourists. With its 155.000 inhabitants Grenoble is considered the largest city of the Alps. Interestingly enough the city is situated in a valley that is only about 220m above sealevel. The hillclimb races towards the skiresort at an altitude of about 1700m, but that is still some 400m short of the actual summit.
In the summermonths Chamrousse transforms to a place for extreme sports. Downhill MTB, paragliding, and rockclimbing are just some of the possible activities. To enjoy the magnificient views into the valley one could also take the cable lift towards the mountain restaurant.
