The Ecce Homo hillclimb derives its name from a statue of Jesus Christ near the top of the peak.
The track is located in the east of Moravia, in a landscape that is called the Nízký Jeseník. One of the oldest geomorphical regions of Europe, it was formed by volcanism millions of years ago. The highest peaks can reach 800m above sea level. The Ecce Homo however only climbs to around 610m.
The start of the hillclimb lies in Sternberk, a small provincial town. The main tourist sights are the Church of the Annunciation and the Castle.
Only 16km to the south is one of the largest cities of the Czech Republic, the city of Olomouc. After being raised to the ground in the Thirty Years war, the city was rebuild in the style of the Baroque. The most amazing monument from that time is the Holy Trinity Column. At the base of this 35m high column stand 18 different saints, while the top of the column depicts the Holy Trinity, the Archangel Gabriel and the Assumption of the Virgin. The column is unique in its size and the high quality of the sculptures. It was declared a world heritage site in 2000.
